Horseradish and Crumb Crusted Salmon

If you love a entrées that deliver big flavor with minimal effort, this horseradish crusted salmon is a recipe you’ll want to add to your dinner routine. It’s spicy, sweet, and buttery with just the right amount of crunch. Best of all, it’s quick enough for weeknights and versatile enough to pair with everything from salad to mashed potatoes.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

Here’s what you need to know about the key ingredients in this recipe. The complete list, including quantities, is in the printable recipe card below.

SALMON: We recommend center-cut, skin-on salmon fillets for this recipe. Leave the skin on during cooking. It helps keep the fish moist, adds flavor, and makes the fillets easier to handle once cooked.

BREADCRUMBS: Fresh breadcrumbs are our choice for this recipe because they absorb the other topping flavors so well. Panko crumbs are a good substitute, but because they have a drier texture, they don’t adhere quite as well as fresh.

HONEY: Honey adds balance to the heat of the horseradish, but maple syrup could work as a substitute. The quantity would remain the same.

How to Make Baked Horseradish Crusted Salmon

Planning to make this recipe? Here’s a quick overview of how it’s done. Detailed, step-by-step instructions are in the printable recipe card below.

Preheat the oven and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Add the salmon, skin side down, season lightly, and set aside.

Combine breadcrumbs, a little salt, melted butter, horseradish, and honey in a small bowl. Spoon the mixture on top of the salmon and pat down with your fingers to form an even crust.

Bake the salmon until done, then switch the oven from bake to broil to toast the crumbs. Use a thin spatula to separate the fillet from the skin and transfer to serving plates immediately.

Kitchen Tip

Use an instant-read thermometer to check your salmon for doneness. Salmon is ready when it flakes easily and reaches an internal temperature of 125 to 130°F.

  1. It was delicious! My husband being a HUGE fan of everything fish, wanted Salmon and horseradish, which is how I stumbled on this recipe! After already had several bites he looked at me, walked to the fridge, took out the soy sauce, and put just a couple drops on his bite. And stated that’s the secret ingredient! So as amazing as it is the way the recipe states, anyone looking for a lil ‘kick’ of sodium, try a few drops of soy sauce! 🙂 thank you for the recipe!

    1. Hi Jeanette,
The soy sauce would definitely add depth of flavor, nice idea! I will add some next time I make this. Thanks for sharing with us.

  2. Awesome. This is something I would have ordered in a nice restaurant and wished I had the recipe. Yum yum
