Wondering what to do with all those spare corks you have hanging around? Why not make a wine cork pumpkin to celebrate fall?
How to Make a Wine Cork Pumpkin
All you need is some paint, hot glue, felt and a little twine to recycle some old wine corks into a cute wine cork pumpkin to decorate your table. You only need about 30 minutes and a few supplies and the result is an adorable table decoration you can enjoy year after year.
Tools You’ll Need
- Paintbrush
- Hot glue gun
- Craft knife
- Scissors
Materials You’ll Need
- 25 recycled wine corks
- Orange acrylic paint
- Green felt
- Jute twine
Instructions
- Dilute the paint with a bit of water and paint both ends of all but one cork. Set aside to dry.
- Arrange the corks in rows (4 on the bottom, then 5, then 6, then 5 and 4 on the top row) and hot glue them together. For best results, try to match up the corks so they’re the same length in each row.

- Cut leaf shapes from the green felt and hot glue them on around the “stem.”
- Tie a short length of twine around the stem to resemble the vine.
Love this project! I was wondering if you had a template for the leaf pattern you used? Thank you!
Hi Shelley,
I’m sorry but we don’t have a template. If you Google “pumpkin leaf outline” and click on the “Images” tab in the results, you can find some simple outlines you could print out. Try this link: https://bit.ly/3lEcQY8
So fun to make and they came out great!
Such a great idea and recycling too.
Thank you, Linda. It’s a fun project.
I made this and I am having trouble with the hot glue keeping the corks together. Am I doing something wrong???
Hi Madonna,
We’ve not experienced any issues with the hot glue in this project ourselves, but a couple of possibilities come to mind: are you using regular hot glue (recommended) or low-temp hot glue (which might not have enough adhesion)? If your glue isn’t getting hot enough, it might be drying too quickly for the corks to connect. Also, are you using actual corks or synthetic? Synthetic corks might not be porous enough for the hot glue. Lastly, a good alternative to hot glue would be Gorilla Glue. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much for the wonderful Tutorial. We are definitely going to try this.
I dig this! My mother in-law drinks wine so I texted her to save her corks so I could make this pumpkin for myself LOL! I also featured your tutorial on my recent roundup post because I loved it so much! Thank you for sharing.

great idea to reuse wine corks in Halloween decoration.
This works better with white wine corks, if not the real red wine corks and the synthetic red wine corks last.
I love this idea! It’s great anywhere in the house. I am posting it in my DIY Thanksgiving ideas roundup post. https://wp.me/p3ioVX-1N9
