Your Very Own Wine Bar
The next time you entertain you can treat your guests to a variety of artisan wines without breaking the bank, or a bottle!
The Octavin Home Wine Bar brings the concept of a wine bar to home entertaining with their unique, patent-pending packaging and premium wine selection.
The Concept
Each innovative, octagonal box contains the equivalent of four conventional bottles of wine in a sealed interior bag.
The bag collapses as the wine is used, preventing oxidation and keeping the wine fresh and flavorful for up to six weeks.
This makes Octavin wines a great choice, not only for large gatherings, but for those of us who enjoy a glass of wine with dinner but rarely finish an entire bottle.
By eliminating heavy glass and cork, Octavin packaging reduces waste, carbon emissions and shipping costs, making these 3 liter wine containers more eco-friendly and quite economical.
The Selection
Octavin Home Wine Bar currently offers the following wines in their portfolio:
Monthaven Winery: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (Central Coast)
Big House Wine Company: Big House Red and Big House White (California)
Pinot Evil: Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir (Hungary)
Boho Vineyards: Old Vine Zinfandel (California)
Silver Birch Winery: Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough, New Zealand)
Osborne: Seven Red Wine (Spain)
The Quality
We had the opportunity to sample the Big House Red, Silver Birch Sauvignon Blanc and Monthaven Chardonnay and have some brief tasting and pairing notes to share.
We opened and enjoyed each of these wines over the course of a few weeks and can attest to the fact that all three kept their fresh, just opened flavors as promised.
Monthaven Chardonnay is a fruity, medium-bodied wine with a nice balance of oak and acidity and a crisp, clean finish. Very food-friendly, we had an opportunity to serve it with grilled chicken, broiled fish and pan-seared scallops.
Monthaven Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied, deep garnet wine, with well-balanced firm tannins and a soft, lingering finish. Aromas of black currant give way to flavors of blackberry and dark cherry on the palate. Pair with lamb, duck, beef stew, or grilled steaks and burgers.
Monthaven Merlot is a medium-bodied, easy-drinking red with plum aromas and flavors of cherry and ripe berries. Pair with blue cheese, roast beef, pork or duck.
Silver Birch Sauvignon Blanc is a refreshingly fragrant wine with flavors of apple, pear and citrus. The finish is crisp, clean and pleasantly acidic. We served it with both Mexican and Asian-style cuisines.
Big House Red is a full-bodied red blend with aromas of ripe red berries and subtle spice and flavors of cranberry, spice and vanilla. We enjoyed it with grilled steak, roast pork and salmon.
