Classic Spanish Sangria

Classic Spanish Sangria: This easy recipe for traditional Spanish sangria is made with Rioja wine, brandy, triple sec, orange juice, lemon juice and sliced fruit.

Sangria is a Spanish wine punch with origins that date back to the 15th century. The traditional recipe is simple blend of red wine, brandy and fruit, but the basic concept allows for a lot of creativity when choosing ingredients. This recipe is close to traditional and is made with Rioja, a bold Spanish wine made from Tempranillo grapes, brandy, orange liqueur, fresh oranges and lemons.


Classic Spanish Sangria

  • Ingredients:
  • 1 bottle (750ml) Rioja
  • 2 ounces brandy
  • 2 ounces orange liqueur (triple sec)
  • 4 ounces freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 2 ounces freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 small orange, sliced

Preparation:
Combine the wine, brandy, orange liqueur, orange juice, lemon juice, lemon slices and orange slices in a large pitcher. Refrigerate until thoroughly chilled, about 3 hours. Serve over ice.

Makes about 1 quart
