Our Background
Our editor and chief content contributor, Erika Pitera, is a freelance journalist based in Orlando, Florida. She has an insatiable curiosity when it comes to food and a terrific talent for sharing what she's learned in a relaxed, conversational style of writing. She is an adventurous cook and her interest in food is shared by her photographer husband, Thomas Pitera, whose creativity is evident in many of the Central Florida restaurant photos, as well as a number of the shots that accompany our articles.
Site owner Lynne Webb developed the concept for our sister site, MyAreaGourmet.com in late 2005 because she felt the internet lacked quality restaurant information. The goal was to create a directory of local, independent restaurants that presented, in-depth, the characteristics that make each one a unique dining experience. Unlike the more common restaurant-rating sites, MyAreaGourmet.com provides visitors with comprehensive information about a restaurant so they can make educated dining choices without being influenced by the opinions of strangers that may not share their tastes. As the concept continued to grow, we developed GourmetByMail.com to provide a showcase for new, innovative and hard to find gourmet food products, kitchen tools, wines, and products for entertaining in your home. In order to make these sites into more than just high quality directories, we went on to develop MyGourmetConnection.com as the common gateway for both the restaurant guide and the gourmet food guide. As food lovers, we know that the appreciation of fine food is heightened by a further understanding of its history, culture, ingredients and preparation techniques. It seemed only natural to enhance the scope of MyAreaGourmet.com and GourmetByMail.com beyond simply listing the best local restaurants and finest food sites online to include the wide variety of food related articles you'll find here at MyGourmetConnection.com. Enjoy!
